TUC response to social mobility White Paper
Responding to the Government’s White Paper on social mobility published today (Tuesday), TUC General Secretary Brendan Barber said: ‘The Government is right to identify that social disadvantage holds people back in this country. But evidence shows that social mobility is greatest in societies with low levels of income inequality. For everyone to have an equal chance of success there needs to be a much smaller gap between rich and poor in the first place. The TUC looks forward to further discussion on the proposals, including the new duty on public services to tackle social disadvantage.’
