  • More than 200 pairs of willing hands have helped create a wildife wetland at Coney Meadow, between Salwarpe and the A38. Funded by community and environmental charity, Welcome to our Future through Severn Waste Environmental Fund (Landfill Communities Fund), the new reedbed is part of the Droitwich Canals’ Restoration Project.
Kim Chester, Development Manager for The Waterways Trust, said: “Since last autumn 120,000 reeds have been planted creating a 2.4 hectare reedbed, providing habitats for a range of wildlife. We are exceptionally grateful to Welcome to our Future for providing the funding for the project and to all the volunteers who have turned out to help with the planting, including staff from Welcome to our Future.” This new reedbed has been introduced to mitigate the removal of the equivalent amount of reeds in the canal as it is restored.
