Suicide prevention helpline launched for Northern Ireland
Health Minister Michael McGimpsey has announced that a regional 24/7 helpline for people in crisis is now available throughout Northern Ireland. This is an important development in the delivery of the Suicide Prevention Strategy for Northern Ireland. The helpline will cost approximately £3.5million each year to run and follows a successful pilot in north and west Belfast. The helpline number is 0808 808 8000. Callers will be able to speak to a trained counsellor. Additional support services are available and more will be put in place over the coming months to ensure that callers receive the back-up help they require. In addition, £46million will be invested over the next three years in the provision of services in the community for those with mental health needs.

It’s fantastic that the helpline is now available throughout Northern Ireland and the more that know about it, the better.
